How to Add a Reusable Block in Gutenberg

The new WordPress editor Gutenberg comes with lots of useful features. We have covered how to create beautiful button in Gutenberg without plugin. Another useful feature offered by Gutenberg is the ability to add reusable blocks. This feature allows you to use a single block on different posts or pages. With this feature, you can speed up your workflow.

The ability of adding reusable blocks is pretty useful for some cases. For instance, you might want to have a weekly or monthly highlight on your website that you want it to appear on every single post or page. Every turn of the week (or month), you want to update the link with the trending post within a week. For such case, all you need to do is edit the reusable block you have set as the weekly highlight.

You can set a block as a reusable block if you think you will reuse the content of the block on the next articles you will write.

How to add a reusable block in Gutenberg

  • Write a new post or page just like usual.
  • On the Gutenberg editor, create or specify a block you want to set as a reusable block and click the three-dot icon on the block editor toolbar and select Add to Reusable Blocks.
  • Give your block a name and click the Save button.

How to use a reusable block

Once you have added a reusable block, you can access it via Gutenberg editor when you are creating a new post or page. So, to use a reusable block, create a new post/page or edit an existing one.

On the Gutenberg editor, click the plus button to add a new block.

Click Reusable on the contextual menu and select a reusable block you want to use.

You can also manage all of the reusable blocks you have added by clicking the Manage All Reusable Blocks link.
